Jim Pleased With Display - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton was pleased with the overall performance but not with the result, the way the two goals were conceded and his side's lack of a cutting edge as they lost 2-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.

Magilton said: "I thought we controlled possession for large chunks of the game but I think we just lacked a bit in the final third.

"It has to be said, we conceded two poor goals through mistakes and not going with runners. I'm not sure if the second one was offside but if not, it's a poor goal again.

"That said, we got on the ball again and forced them back. If Franny Jeffers's freekick had gone in rather than hit the post, then things may have been different.

"Jason De Vos had a header that was in if it hadn't hit Alex Bruce, so we had chances but it didn't go our way.

"So we have to lick our wounds, pick ourselves up and get back on track for a very important game against Derby at the weekend.”

Wednesday manager Brian Laws conceded his side weren't convincing victors, but says they are still in with an outside shout at the play-offs: "It wasn't an inspiring win but it was a good win at that. We've had a great run of results and when you play two games in three days you are asking a hell of a lot of your players.

"We were a bit lethargic at times in the first half and rode our luck a bit, but I thought once we stepped up a gear, we started to open Ipswich up.

"I keep saying the play-offs are mathematically possible but highly unlikely.

"We'll keep chipping away and maybe one or two teams might get a bit nervous seeing us creeping up there."
