Bury Friendly Set - Ipswich Town News

Town's pre-season friendly at Bury Town has been set for Friday, 29th July (KO 7.30pm). The game has been arranged as part of the deal which saw Ian Miller move to Portman Road earlier in the season.

Miller was asked to join the Blues on trial after impressing in a friendly between the two clubs last August. A month later he signed his first professional contract with Bury receiving a nominal fee and the promise of a number of friendlies over the next few seasons.

The centre-half made his Town debut in the 3-0 victory over Plymouth and looks certain to be offered a new deal before the end of the season.

The only other pre-season date set so far is a trip to Nigel Clough's Burton Albion on Tuesday, 10th July.

Town are due another friendly at home to Lazio as part of the deal which saw Matteo Sereni join the Rome club in 2003, but this may not necessarily take place this summer.

We understand the deal which saw George O'Callaghan join the Blues in January didn't include a friendly, as was widely reported at the time.

Pre-season training will start earlier than ever before this summer on June 12th with the Town management concerned that last year's programme, set by the previous regime, wasn't sufficient to prepare the squad for the start of the season.
