Simpson Considers Options - Ipswich Town News

Cambridge United's Robbie Simpson says he is weighing up his options ahead of an expected summer move into the Championship. Town, Norwich City and Leicester City have all been linked, with Blues boss Jim Magilton confirming his interest in the striker.

The 22-year-old, whose contract at the Abbey Stadium is up in June, feels a switch into the Championship will improve him as a player. A student of sports science and maths at Loughborough University, Simpson says he is yet to talk to any of the interested sides but will assess all his options before making a choice: "There are a lot of ifs and buts and I have to consider them all.

"Yes, I am studying at university, but all my life I have wanted to be a top footballer and I have worked my hardest to do that from the very beginning. I definitely want to play at a higher level.

"But will I get to play? I have not spoken to those clubs - what do they want from me? Jim Magilton's comments are very flattering and I know I will have a decision to make.

"They are three major Championship clubs and it will take some serious thinking on my part."

Simpson, released by Norwich as a youngster, has scored 16 goals in 27 starts and five substitute appearances since joining Cambridge United from Cambridge City on a free transfer at the beginning of the season. From January to March he netted 13 times in 13 games, three of those goals coming in a 4-0 victory against Northwich Victoria.

Simpson also coaches for the U's community scheme.
