Collins Retires - Ipswich Town News

Former Blue Aidan Collins has retired from playing at the age of 20. The central defender, who joined Cambridge United in January after being released by Town, has been forced to hang up his boots due to a persistent knee injury.

Collins underwent knee surgery last year before returning to action shortly before moving to the Abbey Stadium.

The Chelmsford-born player made three starts and two sub appearances for the Blues having made his debut as a 16-year-old at Derby County on the final day of 2002/03.

Collins, one of Town's 2005 FA Youth Cup-winning side, also had spells on loan at Wycombe and Stockport during his time at Portman Road.

Last August, Collins's regular reserves central defensive partner Gerard Nash also retired aged 20 due to recurring knee problems. Nash is now a member of the academy coaching staff.
