Sir Bobby Fighting Cancer - Ipswich Town News

Former Town manager Sir Bobby Robson is fighting cancer for the fifth time. The 74-year-old began a six-week long course of chemotherapy last week after small cancerous nodules were discovered in his lungs.

Previously Robson overcame bowel cancer in 1992 and a mouth cancer three years later. In May 2006 he underwent surgery when a tumour was found on his lung after a skiing accident. Three months later Robson had surgery to remove a brain tumour which was revealed by tests after the former England boss was taken ill at the Blues' opening day of the season game with Crystal Palace.

Robson, currently a consultant to Republic of Ireland boss Steve Staunton, says he plans to continue to live life as normally as possible: "Of course, it's not the greatest news I've ever had but I have fought hard throughout my life and I will continue to fight. I will battle as I've always done.

"My last operation in August was a success but this time the doctors have said they can't operate.

"The good news is that they are measuring the nodules in my lungs in millimetres rather than centimetres!

"That is encouraging and we are hopeful the treatment will keep it under control.

"I've been advised to keep busy and active, and that's what I will be trying to do whenever possible."
