Makin is the Man - Ipswich Town News

Chris Makin is this afternoon being reported as the latest Town target. The Sunderland regular right-back, who has also played on the left, is said to be on the verge of a £3 million move from the north-east with Peter Reid having found a replacement, possibly in Argentina which he travels to later this week.

Given that our main priority seems to be an attacking midfielder it seems odd that we should be looking to bring in yet another full-back. On the left we have Jamie Clapham and Amir Karic while Hermann Hreidarsson's left-back play has been an unexpected bonus. On the right we have Fabian Wilnis and Gary Croft.

However, Karic is now out on loan and both Croft and Clapham have come in for criticism this season. Hreidarsson is perhaps also seen as primarily a centre-half in the future with Mark Venus, 33, and John Scales, 34, getting towards the end of their careers. So, perhaps it is this area which George Burley is about to strengthen.

Meanwhile reports this weekend once again linked us with Manchester United's Mark Wilson. As those of you who read your copy of TWTD at the weekend will know George Burley has admitted watching the youngster, but did not put in an offer for him as widely reported last month. Whether there is any more truth in the story now than there was then remains to be seen.

We've set-up a Town Topic to gauge opinion on who we might be about to sign and what you think of the various players mentioned so far. Check out: http://www.twtd.co.uk/towntopics

class="storytext">Given that we are rumoured to be a player from the north-east we thought today's Do You Remember? star ought to be a player we bought from up that way.
