Town After Burnley Pair? - Ipswich Town News

Town have shown interest in former defender John McGreal and Wales keeper Danny Coyne, according to their representative Gary Mellor. The Burnley pair are out of contract this summer.

Mellor said: "Danny has received interest from Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich and Ipswich and a couple of Premiership clubs looking for a number two.

"The important thing is that he gets first team football because he wants to keep his place as Wales number one. John McGreal has had interest from Ipswich.”

McGreal, 35 this June, was first linked with a return to Portman Road by a national newspaper last week.

Town are keen to recruit an experienced keeper in the mould of Coyne, but look set to re-sign ex-Blue Richard Wright before the start of pre-season on June 12th. Coyne may well have been on Jim Magilton's shortlist before he opted for the out-of-contract Everton man.

Magilton has ruled out former skipper Matt Holland returning to Portman Road. Holland is out of contract at newly-relegated Charlton and had been linked.

The Town manager has also committed his future to the Blues, denying reports that the Northern Irish FA might see him as a replacement for Lawrie Sanchez should the current coach move on: "There is no chance of me leaving Portman Road.

"I am fully committed to the task in hand and it is all systems go for me with Ipswich now and in the long term.”

Meanwhile, Town legend Kevin Beattie will be a VIP guest at this year's FA Cup final.
