Jim Targeting Midfielder - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton says he wants to add a ball-winning midfielder to his squad over the summer. The Town manager says he has a player in mind, but is unsure whether the club have the finances to secure his target.

Magilton said: "I'm after another midfielder. I need someone who can get the ball back for us. I have someone in mind and you will know immediately why I have gone for him.”

Everton's Lee Carsley in Magilton's thoughts until he signed a new deal at Goodison Park and it is likely that the player the Town manager is after is someone similar in style to the combative Republic of Ireland international.

The only central midfielders linked with the Blues over the summer are Tommy Miller, released by Sunderland, and Birmingham's Neil Kilkenny, but neither appear to be the type of player Magilton is after.

Striker Tomasz Radzinski and midfielder Claus Jensen, both released by Fulham this summer, are reported to be potential Town targets, presumably if the Blues fail to land Franny Jeffers and Magilton's targeted midfielder, but Malcolm Christie is said not to be on the Town boss's radar after his departure from Middlesbrough.

Radzinski, a friend of Town skipper Jason De Vos from their days with the Canadian national side, is believed to want to move to football in the Far East as the 33-year-old's career draws to a close.

Jensen, 30, almost joined the Blues from Bolton in the summer of 2000, but his girlfriend opted for a switch to Charlton instead.
