No Wembley for Currie - Ipswich Town News

On-loan midfielder Darren Currie was left out of the Derby County 16 as the Rams defeated Tony Mowbray's West Brom 1-0 in Monday's Championship play-off final at Wembley. Former loanee Jay McEveley played the full 90 minutes, while Jon Macken, who spent the first half of the season with Town, was an unused sub.

Currie, who has been with the Rams since March, looks unlikely to be offered a permanent deal by the Premiership's newest club and will probably spend the summer looking for another Championship side, with no new deal on offer at Portman Road.

The 32-year-old made four starts and four sub appearances during his time with the Rams, scoring once.

Derby's promotion to the Premiership could make a difference to the Blues' prospects of signing Blackburn striker Franny Jeffers. The Rams have been linked with Jeffers for the last couple of months and their promotion will put them in a position where they could significantly outbid Town, who have already had a £350,000 offer turned down.

Jeffers has said he would like to return to the Blues on a permanent basis, but the prospect of regular Premiership football may well be too big a lure for the former Everton, Arsenal and Charlton man. However, the 26-year-old may be less keen on a move back to the Premiership if he was likely to spend yet another season on the fringes rarely playing games.
