Pre-Season Starts - Ipswich Town News

The majority of the Town squad are back in pre-season training today, an earlier start than ever before. One or two of the squad are not involved as they have had little rest since the end of the 2006/07 season.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site: "Some of the players will get extra time away because they have been playing for their countries.

"Jaime Peters, Alex Bruce, Chris Casement and Danny Haynes have all played games since we finished the season and Lewis Price was away with Wales for a week as well.

"They won't be training, but the rest of the squad will be in and we will look to do some gentle running and then some football work in the afternoon.

"They will train for three days, then have four days off over the first three weeks and we will see how they react.

"It's something different we are trying, but hopefully it will avoid the hectic start to pre-season that you can get and keep the players free of any niggly injuries that you can pick up over those first few weeks."

Winger Peters won't be back with the squad until July as he will spend the next month away with Canada at the FIFA U20 World Cup, which his country is hosting.

The new season starts on August 11th with the fixtures published on TWTD this Thursday at 10am. The Carling Cup draw is on Wednesday, also at 10am, and begins in the week commencing August 13th with the second round a fortnight later.
