Charlton on Bent Refusal - Ipswich Town News
Charlton have confirmed that former Town striker Darren Bent has turned down his proposed £17 million move to West Ham. Bent has decided against a switch to Upton Park after holding talks with the Hammers today.
Charlton chief executive Peter Varney says that West Ham are so far the only side to offer an acceptable fee for the England striker: "We set a valuation for Darren and West Ham were the only club prepared to meet that valuation.
"This morning we gave them permission to speak to Darren, which he did, and he has decided not to join West Ham."
Varney says he now expects Bent to remain with Charlton for the season ahead, although it is almost certain the Addicks will receive further offers.
Earlier today, Tottenham were reported to be ready to make a bid for the 23-year-old.
