Jeffers Links No Surprise - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton says it is little surprise that other clubs are being linked with moves for Town target Franny Jeffers. Weekend reports claimed that Coventry City had had a bid turned down by Blackburn, while Derby County and now Norwich City are also claimed to be interested.

Magilton said: "There is always going to be speculation about Franny and we have to go along with that.

"He is our main priority and we want him in the building. We will be doing all we can to confirm it.”

Town are understood to have made or be close to making a third bid for the former Everton, Arsenal and Charlton striker, reportedly £1 million including add-ons, presumably relating to appearances, goals and promotion.

The Town manager also says he fully expects to receive a windfall from Darren Bent's move away from Charlton this summer and feels that Blackburn are keeping an eye on the situation as they look to make the most from selling Jeffers.

Magilton has dismissed rumours that Lewis Price might be used as a makeweight in the Jeffers deal. The Wales keeper is widely tipped to be on his way out of Portman Road this summer with Richard Wright expected to return to Town on a free transfer, although the Blues boss has once again denied that this is an already done deal.

Town have no new injuries sustained in the first fortnight of pre-season, but Gavin Williams is not training with the majority of the squad due to his groin problem. After today, the players will be given the next week off.

Meanwhile, Brighton and Hove Albion are reported to have made an offer to former Seagull Darren Currie, however, the 32-year-old is set to join Millwall. Currie was released by Town at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, former Blue Dean McDonald is a target of SPL side Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The ex-Arsenal trainee has a year left on his contract at Gillingham.
