Bent Move Imminent - Ipswich Town News

TWTD understands that former Blue Darren Bent's move from Charlton to Tottenham is nearing completion, despite West Ham making a late attempt to resurrect the England striker's move to east London.

Since Bent decided against joining the Hammers a fortnight ago, Spurs have always been the frontrunners for his signature, with the frontman understood to see a switch to White Hart Lane as giving him the best chance of furthering his England ambitions.

West Ham have renewed their interest since Bent turned down their four-year, £80,000-a-week offer, but have been unable to persuade him that his long-term ambitions would be best served in claret and blue.

Bent was reported to be on the verge of completing his move to Spurs earlier in the week, but Charlton were said to be holding out for the £17 million fee previously agreed with the Irons, while Martin Jol's club were only offering £15 million up front plus £1 million in top-ups.

It is as yet unclear whether Tottenham have increased their offer or whether Charlton have accepted a lower fee for the 23-year-old Town academy product.

The Blues are due 20% of the profit the Addicks make on the £2.6 million they paid Town for the twice-capped England striker.
