Charlton have confirmed that Town will receive a £2.58 million windfall from Darren Bent's move to Spurs. The former Blue has completed his switch to Tottenham for an initial fee now revealed to be £15.5 million.
In addition, the Addicks will receive another £1 million in potential add-ons, believed to relate to Bent's England caps and Spurs qualifying for the Champions League. Town will receive smaller windfalls as these clauses are triggered.
The Blues were due 20% of the profit the Addicks made on the £2.6 million they paid Town for the 23-year-old.
Charlton plc chairman Richard Murray paid tribute to Bent, who spent two seasons at the Valley: "I'd like to place on the record my appreciation for Darren's efforts on behalf of the club over the past two seasons.
"He's been a model professional during his time at Charlton. He has been a pleasure to work with and has always represented the club magnificently, both at domestic and international level.
"Realistically, it was always going to be difficult to hang on to a player of his quality following relegation, but we feel we have negotiated the best deal possible for the club and, after a payment to Ipswich, it's a sum of money that will cushion the effects of relegation for the club.”
Tottenham's sporting director Damien Comolli welcomed Bent to White Hart Lane: "Darren has showed fantastic motivation and desire to join the club and we are absolutely delighted to have him.
"He recognised we have a project here and as a player he wants to work with Martin Jol and showed that all the way.
"The two signings we've completed so far in Darren and Gareth Bale offer us massive improvement in terms of the squad, players with great potential whose best days are in front of them.”
Confirmation of the Bent deal and Town's sell-on percentage is likely to see the Blues firm up their third bid for Franny Jeffers, probably somewhere in the region of £750,000 with add-ons - presumably relating to appearances, goals and promotion - potentially taking the deal to the £1 million sought by Blackburn.
