No Third Jeffers Bid - Ipswich Town News

Town are still to make their widely reported third bid for striker Franny Jeffers, according to reports in Lancashire. The Blues have had two offers turned down by Blackburn Rovers and were claimed to have made or be on the verge of making a third bid for the former loan striker.

Rovers set Jeffers's price at £1 million with Town offering £350,000 and then £500,000. The Blues were reported to be preparing a third bid believed to be in the region of £750,000 with top-ups taking the deal up to £1 million.

Late last week, chairman David Sheepshanks expressed Town's impatience with the situation, stating that the Blues would "not be held to ransom” by Rovers, but indicating that the club's previous bid is still on the table.

The lack of any new offer could indicate that Town are starting to concentrate their search for a new striker elsewhere. Former Blue Pablo Couñago and released Middlesbrough striker Malcolm Christie have both been cited as possible alternative targets by Jim Magilton.

Blackburn are understood to have received offers from Town and two other Championship clubs for Jeffers, one of whom is believed to be Coventry City. A report over the weekend claimed Mark Hughes's club are keen to get a deal done this week.

Meanwhile, pre-season training has given the Blues few injury headaches. Fabian Wilnis and Gary Roberts have suffered minor problems which have forced them to miss sessions, but nothing serious.

Gavin Williams is still under treatment for his pelvic problem and continues to be the Blues' biggest concern for the start of the season. Sylvain Legwinski, Jason De Vos and Richard Naylor are all doing well having missed the end of last season through foot problems.

The Town squad have been given nine days off before they make their way to Loughborough University next Monday to continue pre-season training. Midfielder Owen Garvan was allowed to return to Ireland early last week to sort some personal problems and the 19-year-old could be given longer away if required. Town have stressed that Garvan's issues are not health or fitness related.

Elsewhere, former Blue Wayne Brown has requested a transfer away from Colchester United.
