Jim on Lee Bid - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has reiterated that striker Alan Lee is very much in his plans, but says “a substantial offer” for the Republic of Ireland international would be considered by the Town board. The Blues have turned down an initial bid from Hull City for Lee, while Coventry are also interested.

Magilton told the club site: "Alan Lee is very much in my plans for the new season.

"He looked sharp and hungry against Burton on Tuesday night and worked very well with Jon Walters.

"Of course, like any club, if we receive a substantial offer for Alan or any player here, then it has to be given the proper consideration by the board, but he's not a player that I want to let go.

"Pablo's arrival will add to competition for places in attack for sure, but that's a situation I want throughout my team."

Hull are expected to make a second bid for the 28-year-old, who has a year left on his Town deal, before the weekend, with their first offer understood to have been well short of the £500,000 price tag the Blues are believed to have put on the former Cardiff City striker.

Preston boss Paul Simpson ruled his club out of the running earlier in the week, while Coventry may have to wait until their takeover is complete before they can match Town's valuation.

Pablo Couñago will undergo his medical at Portman Road today and is expected to sign on Friday. The Spaniard, who returns on a free transfer, will not be involved in tonight's pre-season game at Kettering Town (KO 7.45pm).
