Charlton Sky Game Confirmed - Ipswich Town News

Town's game with Charlton has been confirmed as moving to April 30th from April 28th. The final stumbling block of police approval seems to have been overcome and Town will get another opportunity to show their skills to the nation.

Last season Town beat Charlton 3-1 at the Valley on a day when the Addicks were given the First Division title. This year a victory for Town could be important in our European campaign.

The Ireland game with Cyprus which was reported to be under threat yesterday has now been confirmed as going ahead. There were worries that it might be called off as an anti-foot and mouth precaution, but the Cypriots say they are not worried about any threat caused by the Irish.

Matt Holland, who missed out on a start with the Irish team last week, said: "That is excellent news. We really wanted to play the game and the one against Andorra a few days later, which are important to give us a chance of qualifying for next year's World Cup."

Youth team player Justin Asiamah has had one of those weeks. Not only has he been let go by Town, but he has also broken his ankle when on the verge of finding a new club.

Asiamah and Stewart Logan, the brother of Richard Logan, both played in exit trials held at Lilleshall last week. These were games where players being let go by top clubs like ourselves played a trial game watched by scouts from lower division scouts. Asiamah seemed to have impressed enough to get a deal with a club, but his injury, sustained in training, could scupper that. We wish him the best of luck.
