Walters is Starter - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has confirmed that Jon Walters will be in his starting line-up when the new season starts with a home game against Sheffield Wednesday on August 11th. Walters has been outstanding throughout pre-season and looks to have won a place on the right of midfield.

Magilton said: "Jon Walters has to play in our team, it is as simple as that. He has had a fantastic pre-season and done everything we have asked of him. He will be dangerous playing out there and if we can get balls into the box then that will give us opportunities to score goals.

"Alan, Pablo and Jon, with the right sort of delivery, will score us goals.”

Magilton has used Walters on the right-hand side on a couple of occasions during pre-season, a role not dissimilar to that played by Steve Whitton and James Scowcroft in past Town teams.

The Blues' early season starting line-up looks likely to be much as took to the field in Antwerp on Monday, although Gary Roberts will start ahead of Gavin Williams on the left of midfield.

Williams and Sylvain Legwinski may have to wait for their chance to start games as they continue their comebacks from injury. Both are likely to play some role in Sunday's game at home to Panathinaikos.

Jaime Peters is a little way behind the rest of the squad in terms of pre-season training after returning from Canada's campaign at the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Town have announced their squad for tonight's cricket match: A Rhodes, Bruce, Coghlan, De Vos, Harding, Howlett, Klug, Lee, Magilton, Richards, Walters, Wright. Wayne Coghlan is the club's kitman and regular cricketer Graham Howlett is an academy coach.
