Town to Get Carter? - Ipswich Town News

Town have made a loan enquiry for West Brom midfielder Darren Carter, according to reports in the Midlands. Norwich City are also claimed to be interested in the player, whose penalty for Birmingham sealed the Canaries' defeat in the 2002 play-off final.

Carter, 23, has a year left on his contract at the Hawthorns plus an optional second if the club still require him. If he isn't in boss Tony Mowbray's plans, the former Town skipper may prefer to sell the Solihull-born player rather than allowing him to move on a short-term basis.

Town may look at bringing in a loan midfielder as cover for Gavin Williams, who is expected to be out of action for a while with the ankle injury he sustained in the Panathinaikos game.

Meanwhile, Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams is reported to have confirmed that former Town loanee Franny Jeffers is holding talks with Sheffield Wednesday, as TWTD reported first on Monday.

Jeffers's switch might not be complete in time for him to face the Blues at Portman Road on Saturday with the deal in its early stages. A fee of £600,000 has been widely reported, although as Town found out earlier in the summer, the one-time England striker's wage requirements may prove a more significant obstacle.

Town picked up no new injuries during last night's friendly at Dartford. Sylvain Legwinski was replaced after 65 minutes, which may suggest the Frenchman will come into the Saturday's starting line-up in place of the injured Williams.
