Long Absence for Williams - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Gavin Williams will be out of action for around four months after rupturing the medial ligament in his ankle during Sunday's friendly with Panathinaikos. The Welshman underwent an MRI scan earlier today which confirmed he will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Physio Matt Byard told the club site: "Gavin has ruptured the medial ligament in his ankle.

"It's still very swollen and he will have physiotherapy to help reduce the soft tissue swelling.

"He will be on crutches for a while and will be regularly monitored through his recovery period.

"It's difficult to be precise with a date for his return to full action, but at the moment we are looking at three to four months."

The Blues have already been linked with a loan move for West Brom's Darren Carter as cover while Williams is out injured.
