Tommy Nearly Joined Owls - Ipswich Town News

Returning Town midfielder Tommy Miller has revealed to TWTD that he could have been joining Franny Jeffers in the Sheffield Wednesday line-up on Saturday. Miller spoke to Owls boss Brian Laws earlier in the summer regarding a move to Hillsborough.

Miller told TWTD: "I nearly signed for Sheffield Wednesday. I spoke to Bryan Laws pretty much as soon as the season finished but he needed a player to move out before he could bring me in. So I could have been facing Ipswich on the first day of the season!

"I did speak to a few other clubs over the summer, but Jim had rung me and told me to keep him informed about my situation. Things dragged on for a few weeks before I signed, but then I spoke to the chairman the weekend before I signed, came down and it was more or less sorted.”

The former Sunderland man says Town and the Owls are both moving in the right direction: "Sheffield Wednesday and Brian Laws did very well last season and almost made the play-offs. Jim also finished the season well and the two clubs are in similar positions.”

Miller was talking to TWTD in an interview in the new issue of the fanzine, which goes on sale around the ground ahead of Saturday's season opener. Our stall will be by Sir Alf, while sellers will also be positioned at the Portman Road entrance to the Greene King Stand, Planet Blue and at the North Stand end of Alderman Road.
