Gold on Town Rumours - Ipswich Town News

Birmingham City chairman David Gold has commented on rumours linking him and joint-president David Sullivan with investment in Town. Sullivan was first reported to be interested in the Blues back in June when the story was denied by all parties.

Gold and Sullivan still own a controlling interest at Birmingham with Carson Yeung's takeover yet to be completed, but the duo have been linked with a number of other clubs in recent months.

The 71-year-old said: "It is understandable that there will be speculation about what David Sullivan and David Gold might want to do after Birmingham — if indeed the deal does go through.

"It is not just Ipswich who are looking for investment. All clubs at Championship level need lots of investment to take them to the higher level.”

Gold appears to be unwilling to rule any moves in or out at this stage and earlier in the week made similar comments regarding rumours he was targeting Brighton and Hove Albion.

Town chairman David Sheepshanks has denied having any contact with Gold or Sullivan — aside from a chance meeting at Wimbledon in the summer — and the Blues continue to look for investment, as they have for the last few years.

Meanwhile, Town are set to start talks with E.ON regarding an extension to their sponsorship, which is up at the end of the season. However, it is likely that the Blues will have to look for a new main sponsor ahead of 2008/09 with the power giant closing their Wherstead Park offices and moving out of the area.

Elsewhere, Pele will watch Town in action at Sheffield United on November 6th. The Brazilian legend is bringing over a Sao Paulo U17 side to play games against Blades youngsters as part of a link-up between the two clubs.
