U16s Thrash Norwich - Ipswich Town News

Town's U16s chalked up their ninth straight win with a 5-1 hammering of local rivals Norwich City at Playford Road. Ronan Murray netted twice, while Luke Hyam, Josh Capocci and Connor Wickham were also on the scoresheet.

Town opened the scoring when Irish frontman Ronan Murray converted a penalty after strike partner Charlie Matthews had been fouled in the area.

Norwich pulled a goal back before Murray scored his second with a good finish from a one-on-one situation.

Trialist Eoin O'Herlihy saw a shot fly past the top corner, as well as forcing the visiting keeper into making a good save down low.

Murray then sent through Luke Hyam, who slotted his shot in off the post to send Town into half-time with a 3-1 lead.

Josh Capocci added to Town's lead after the break, before young striker Connor Wickham completed the scoring.

Although the U16s play matches against sides split up into the same groups as the U18s, no league table is maintained.

Midfielder Eoin O'Herlihy, formerly with Aston Villa, has signed a one-year schoolboy deal with the Blues having impressed during his trial. The 15-year-old, who has been playing youth football with Lakeford Rangers in Norwich, has appeared in a number of recent U16 matches.

Ipswich U16s: Ward, Austin, Dunbar, Cawley, Hyam, Eastman, O'Herlihy, Clark, Matthews, Murray and Roe. Subs (all used): Easlea, Traveller, Brown, Capocci and Wickham.

Further to the U18s report, here's the team: Plummer, Clemo, Robinson, Williams, Watson, Smith, Upson, Reason, Ainsley, Rhodes, Murphy. Subs. Lambe, Ward, Barrett, Calver and Hyam.
