More Belgian Links - Ipswich Town News

Reports suggest that Town are bringing another Heerenveen player to Portman Road for a short spell. Last week it was reported that Town were to bring youngster Marc van Eijk to spend some time with the Blues and now his team-mate, Belgian U21 international, Ian Claes is reported to be spending a similar spell.

Town said earlier in the season that Heerenveen were a club with whom they have had a lot of contact. There was even talk of a formal link, although this hasn't been mentioned for a while. Town seem to have a similar relationship with Heerenveen as they do with Swedes Giffarna Sundsvall.

Neither player seems likely to join Town long-term, the idea being that they gain experience with Town with Blues youngsters possibly going in the opposite direction for similar reasons. Back in September Bryan Klug said of the Dutch club: "In many ways they are a similar club to to Ipswich. They have to rely on their youth scheme to provide players."

Claes is a 20-year-old striker, while Van Eijk is also a striker and is 19-years-old.

Also linked with Town is another Belgian player, Bob Peeters who plays for Martijn Reuser's old club Vitesse Arnhem. Peeters is a 27-year-old striker who has previously played for Roda JC Kerkrade and joined Vitesse last summer. Prior to this he played in Belgium for Lierse. He has made five appearances for his national side scoring four goals, including a hat-trick in the recent 10-1 win over San Marino.

We reckon that a move for another striker would be unlikely, particularly as George Burley has said that a midfielder is his priority.
