U18s Lose, U16s Continue Phenomenal Run - Ipswich Town News
Town's U18s rested a number of regulars as they lost 2-0 to West Ham at a very windy Playford Road on Saturday morning. The U16s took their superb home and away winning run to 11 games with a 4-2 victory over the Hammers.
The U18s left Ed Upson, Jordan Rhodes and Curtley Williams on the bench ahead of Wednesday's third round FA Youth Cup tie at QPR (KO 7pm), while Tommy Smith remains on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Both West Ham's goals were 25-yard freekicks scored by Junior Stanislas, an England U19s team-mate of Ed Upson.
Stanislas had blasted an earlier penalty over the bar and the Blues had also missed from the spot, Marek Stech saving from Jai Reason.
The U16s continued their winning run with a 4-2 victory, goals from Ronan Murray, Connor Wickham, David Cawley and Ollie Brown defeating West Ham. Although the U16s play matches against sides split up into the same groups as the U18s, no league table is maintained.
U18s: Ward, Clemo, Hyam, Ainsley, Roe, Daniels (Upson), Lambe, Reason, Tooms (Rhodes), Barrett, Murphy (Robinson). Unused: Plummer, C Williams.
