Skipper Jason De Vos and striker Alan Lee have emerged as injury doubts ahead of Town's New Year's Day game with West Brom (KO 3pm). Lee has an achilles injury, while De Vos hurt his ribs and ankle at Coventry on Saturday.
Boss Jim Magilton says he will not know whether they are in with a chance of facing Tony Mowbray's top of the table side until their scans have been assessed: "Alan has an achilles problem and we will know more after our medical people have seen the scan.
"Jason picked up rib and ankle injuries in the Coventry game and will also have a scan. His ankle should be OK but his ribs are bruised and that is a concern. Like Alan, he is a doubt for the game."
Town are already without Tommy Miller, who is suspended for one game after his red card at Coventry on Saturday.
Even without the injury concerns, Magilton has decisions to make all over his side after two poor performances on the road. Spanish full-back Sito will be assessed today after a week out having suffered a concussion against Burnley, while Dan Harding may also be considered for the left-back role.
If either return, Chris Casement is likely to be the man to drop out with David Wright returning to right-back.
Alex Bruce is back in training after suffering a recurrence of his groin injury at Leicester and depending on his progress today may be considered, particularly if De Vos misses out.
Richard Naylor is back in training after his slipped disc and may be rushed back if De Vos and Bruce are both unavailable. Naylor wasn't adjudged ready to play against Coventry on Saturday, but with youngster Chris Casement or David Wright switching to centre-half the only other options if De Vos and Bruce are both out, may well be considered for an early return.
Miller's absence in midfield could see Gavin Williams back in the starting line-up, although the Welshman has been a long way from his usual self since returning from his ankle injury.
Veteran Frenchman Sylvain Legwinski was not ready to be included in the squad for the trip to Leicester after his ankle problem and so is probably not yet fit enough to make a start.
That may hand a starting spot to Liam Trotter, who has impressed the Town management in the reserves in recent weeks, or even George O'Callaghan, who returned from his loan spell at Brighton earlier in the week where he impressed with his football, if not his comments about the chairman's running of the club.
Danny Haynes could drop out after a quiet game at Coventry, despite his goal, which may well see Jon Walters move back to the right, where he has been most effective this season, unless he is required to come in for Lee up front.
Left midfield remains a problem area with Gary Roberts not even included in the squad for the last few games. Billy Clarke may find himself recalled, while Matt Richards could be an outsider to make a return to the Town side having been on the bench at Coventry.
Brighton continue to monitor Richards's situation and Town have agreed that the League One side can take the 23-year-old on loan again in January. However, there is at least one other club interested and Richards is weighing up his options.
If Lee fails to make it, Jon Walters is likely to be pushed forward alongside Pablo Couñago. If that's the case Danny Haynes will probably keep his place on the right side of midfield.
Another attacking option available to Magilton is to give Jordan Rhodes his first Town start, however, fielding more senior players against the high-flying Baggies seems more likely: "Jordan has looked bright when he has come on. He continues to develop and improve so we will see how he is. I would have no qualms about starting him.”
Magilton says he has a bid in for a player who he hopes to have at his disposal in time for the game, but it is more likely that the Town manager will be restricted to using his current personnel until at least Saturday.
Former Town skipper and coach Tony Mowbray won't discuss promotion for his West Brom side at this stage of the season: "All we're talking about is accumulating points.
"'Promotion' is just a word that gets stuck on the end if you get enough points to finish in the top two.
"We realise we're going to have to get as many as 90 points, or at least in the high eighties.
"There is a long way to go and we don't want to get sidetracked by words like promotion.
"Why would anybody want to put any extra pressure on themselves? If we had lost against Scunthorpe, and then lost the tough game we have at Ipswich, all of a sudden we could have been fifth or sixth.
"I'd like to think I am realistic enough to know we are only ever a defeat away from a potential crisis if you start building yourselves up too much.
"All we are doing at this moment in time is building up points and ticking along - just like everybody else is.
"Again, at this moment in time, the points we have accrued have put us top of the table.
"But let's see where we are at the end of January, and then at the end of February, and so on. We've got to keep going."
Mowbray says he expects a classic between two footballing sides: "Sometimes these games can be disappointing, but you would hope it will be an open contest with plenty of quality football on show.
"It will be a big challenge for us going to Portman Road, where they haven't lost. But we will try to go there and become the first team to upset that record."
Mowbray looks likely to recall Ishmael Miller to his side after a knee injury, the powerful striker on loan from Manchester City having given the Town defence big problems at the Hawthorns earlier in the season. Midfielder Filipe Teixeira may also return after being rested for the last two matches.
Earlier in the season the Baggies beat the Blues 4-0 at the Hawthorns, although Town had been close to salvaging a draw until Albion scored three goals in the final three minutes of the match.
Overall though, the Blues have had the better of West Brom, Town winning 31 games between the sides (29 in the league), drawing 15 (13) and losing 20 (19).
TWTD issue 90 will be on sale around the ground (by Sir Alf, Planet Blue and the Portman Road entrance to the Greene King Stand) from 1pm. The issue includes an interview with skipper Jason De Vos as well as the usual nonsense.
If you can't make the game, a single copy or a six-issue subscription can be purchased here. ClubFanzine's West Brom site, WBAlbion.com, can be found here.
Tuesday's referee is Trevor Kettle from Berkshire, who has shown 101 yellow and four red cards in 24 games so far this season. Kettle, who has a reputation for being card happy, over fussy and often perplexing, last took control of the Blues in the 4-1 home victory over Coventry at Portman Road in September in which he booked Owen Garvan and two Sky Blues players.
Likely squad: Alexander, Supple, Wright, Harding, Sito, De Vos, Wilnis, Bruce, Naylor, Casement, Garvan, Williams, Trotter, Walters, Haynes, Clarke, Peters, Richards, Lee, Couñago, Rhodes.
