Norris Claimed to Be Target - Ipswich Town News

Plymouth Argyle midfielder David Norris is reported to be the player for whom Town have made a bid. The 26-year-old was widely rumoured to be a Blues target in the summer with Jim Magilton eventually confirming that he had made an enquiry regarding the former Bolton man.

Yesterday, Magilton revealed he had already made one bid and one enquiry, but the club are yet to reveal the identities of the players involved. Norris being the Town manager's first target would be no surprise given Magilton's previously stated interest and the Blues' need for a more combative midfielder, especially away from home.

Back in the summer, the Blues boss was told Norris wasn't for sale, while Southampton, whose poor financial state appears to rule them out of a bid now, failed with offers of £700,000 and £1 million. Crystal Palace and Leicester have also been linked on numerous occasions in the last few months.

Plymouth chairman Paul Stapleton recently said he will offer Norris a new contract in January with the former Bolton, Boston and Hull City man's current deal up at the end of June 2009.

Norris joined the Pilgrims in December 2002 for £25,000 from Bolton, who as part of that deal will receive 50% of any fee Plymouth receive for the Peterborough-born midfielder.

Given the existence of this clause, Plymouth will probably want a fee approaching £1.5 million for the man nicknamed ‘Chuck' by the fans at Home Park, although a recent report claimed the Pilgrims were seeking to renegotiate the terms their deal with Wanderers.
