O'Callaghan Return to Cork Scuppered? - Ipswich Town News

Reports in Ireland claim Cork City will be prevented from re-signing Town midfielder George O'Callaghan in January due to the three-club rule. FIFA's ban on players representing three clubs within 12 months means the 28-year-old wouldn't be able to join his hometown club until the summer.

O'Callaghan ended his loan spell at Brighton last week and is highly unlikely to return to the Seagulls after a fall-out with chairman Dick Knight.

Talks between the Blues and Cork are reported to have already taken place, while Bohemians are also understood to be interested and QPR are believed to be monitoring the situation.

Irish reports also claim that Town are still weighing up whether to make a move for Drogheda central defender Graham Gartland.

The Blues watched the 24-year-old throughout the Irish season and Jim Magilton caught him in action playing for the Irish B team alongside Alex Bruce in the recent friendly with Scotland.

Jon Walters is once again claimed to be one of Wigan manager Steve Bruce's January targets in the national press. Bruce, father of Blues defender Alex, has been at several Town games this season and has previously been linked with Danny Haynes and Liam Trotter.
Walters was first mentioned as a Bruce target during his time at Birmingham and the story has been resurrected on a number of occasions since his switch to the JJB Stadium. The striker-turned-midfielder is well-known to Bruce senior as the 24-year-old played alongside his son in youth sides at Blackburn Rovers.

Town loanees Sammy Moore and Ian Miller are due back at Portman Road after ending their spells at Brentford and Darlington yesterday. Moore could be on his way to Leeds in January, while Darlington want Miller for a third spell, although the former Bury Town man may prefer a switch elsewhere after having few opportunities to play during his latest stay with the Quakers.

Meanwhile, Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale is keen to extend Town legend Russell Osman's spell as his assistant with the Grecians. Osman was initially brought in on a temporary basis, but is now in talks about remaining at St James' Park until the end of the season, although he will be taking three weeks off to cover the African Nations Cup for TV.
