Synnott on Trial at York - Ipswich Town News

Defender Michael Synnott is on trial with Blue Square Premier side York City. Synnott, 21 this month, was a member of Town's 2005 FA Youth Cup-winning side.

Despite having won a single Republic of Ireland U21 cap, Synnott has yet to make a Town first team squad, with his time at Portman Road hampered by a succession of injuries. The Dubliner's Town contract is up at the end of the season.

Yesterday, Synnott was a late call into the Blues reserves side which defeated Peterborough 2-0, but was substituted before the break.

As reported yesterday, Stevenage Borough boss Peter Taylor was at Playford Road to watch the game and is keen to take academy defender Tommy Smith on loan.

Meanwhile, Charlton are reported to be leading the chase for Burnley striker Andy Gray. We understand £1 million-rated Gray is on Jim Magilton's list of potential January targets.

Elsewhere, former Blue Danny Sonner, now 35, is on trial at Wrexham, having left Walsall after a short-term contract.
