Fernandes on Trial With Blues - Ipswich Town News

Town have taken APOEL Nicosia's Ricardo Fernandes on trial, according to reports in Cyprus. The 29-year-old Portuguese left midfielder flew to the UK on Monday after the Cypriot side gave permission for Fernandes to spend time with the Blues, while another Championship club are also said to be interested.

After spells as a youngster with SC Freamunde, Moreirense, SC Freamunde and
CD Santa Clara ,Fernandes made his name with Gil Vicente and in 2002 won himself a move to Sporting Lisbon, moving on to Jose Mourinho's Porto a year later, where he deputised for Deco.

The 5ft 9in tall midfielder joined Académica Coimbra having spent only a year with Porto, where he scored once in 18 games, then made his move to Cyprus in 2005.

Known for his set pieces and crossing, Fernandes amassed 30 assists and 13 goals in his first season with APOEL as they won the Cypriot league title. As well as playing on the left, Fernandes can also operate in the hole behind the main strikers.

Fernandes is contracted to APOEL until 2010, but is known to be keen to move into English football.
