Town Watched Robson? - Ipswich Town News

Town are reportedly amongst a number of clubs who sent scouts to watch Dundee United midfielder Barry Robson as he helped his side to a 1-0 Scottish Cup victory at Clyde last night. Portsmouth, Burnley and Celtic are also claimed to have been keeping an eye on the 29-year-old.

Newspaper stories yesterday indicated that boss Jim Magilton would attend the fixture, having watched the Terrors in action against Hearts recently, but the Town manager instead arrived late (and undetected by TWTD) at Portman Road to see the U18s complete their FA Youth Cup victory over Watford.

Robson, who netted a hat-trick in the game against Hearts, scored the winner with a 30-yard scorcher last night and admits he doesn't know where he will be playing his football at the end of the month.

Dundee United manager Craig Levein says he fears losing his star man during the transfer window: "Of course I do. I'm the manager of the team and he is the best player. But nobody has made any offers and we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Previously with Rangers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Robson has been linked with Hearts and Wolves in recent months, in addition to the sides said to have watched him in action at Broadwood.

Primarily a left-sided player, in August the 5ft 11in tall midfield man won his first full Scotland cap, having previously played twice at B level.

Born in Aberdeen, Robson is contracted to Dundee United until 2011 and is likely to command a seven-figure fee.

Meanwhile, Midlands newspapers are again linking the Blues with Birmingham left-back Mat Sadler. Wolves, Watford and Stoke City are also said to be keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.

Sadler has made only five starts and two sub appearances for Birmingham this season with Franck Queudrue moving from Fulham in the summer. The former England U16 and U17 captain is likely to get even fewer chances with Hibernian's David Murphy set to complete a move to Alex McLeish's side later this week.

The Solihull-born player has spent his entire career with Birmingham, aside from a eight-game loan spell at Northampton during 2003/04.

Overall, the 5ft 11in tall full-back has made 58 starts and three substitute appearances for the Midlanders since making his debut in a Carling Cup tie against Leyton Orient in 2002, with injuries having limited his chances.

Sadler signed a new three-year deal in the summer which would mean he is likely to fetch a fee in excess of £1 million.
