Alexander in Burley's First Scotland Squad - Ipswich Town News

Town keeper Neil Alexander has been named in former Blues boss George Burley's first Scotland squad. Alexander will join up with a training camp in Glasgow from February 3rd to 5th.

The former Cardiff stopper, who saved his third penalty of the season against Plymouth on Tuesday evening, has previously won three full Scotland caps.

Meanwhile, former Town captain Terry Butcher has agreed in principle to become Burley's assistant: "George has selected me, hopefully, for purely football reasons. The fact that I'm English shouldn't really matter.

"I played at Ipswich in the same side as George and have kept in touch with him, and it is great for him to ask me about the post with Scotland.

"It is a part-time role which will enable me to do other stuff as well. I have done everything in my career but this will be new and different; being involved on the coaching side at international level."

Goalkeepers: Neil Alexander (Ipswich Town), Craig Gordon (Sunderland), Allan McGregor (Rangers), David Marshall (Norwich City). Defenders: Graham Alexander (Burnley), Russell Anderson (Sunderland), Gary Caldwell (Celtic), Christian Dailly (West Ham United), Alan Hutton (Rangers), Stephen McManus (Celtic), Graeme Murty (Reading), Gary Naysmith (Sheffield United), David Weir (Rangers). Midfielders: Scott Brown (Celtic), Barry Ferguson (Rangers), Darren Fletcher (Manchester United), Paul Hartley (Celtic), Lee McCulloch (Rangers), Stephen Pearson (Derby County), Barry Robson (Dundee United), Gary Teale (Derby County).
