Lee Price £750,000? - Ipswich Town News

Coventry have offered Town £750,000 for striker Alan Lee, according to one of Thursday's newspapers. TWTD was first to report the Sky Blues' renewed attempts to sign the Irishman on Wednesday afternoon.

The Irish striker was linked with Iain Dowie's club in the summer, but their financial situation meant that they were unable to make a bid.

Money is now less of a problem at the Ricoh Arena after former Manchester City defender Ray Ranson's recent takeover and Lee is believed to be more amenable to a switch to the Midlands than he would be a move to Burnley, who made an enquiry last week.

The Sky Blues sold Dele Adebola to Bristol City for £300,000 earlier today, while Town have been linked with frontman Leon Best.

The same paper says Town will move for either Derby's Stephen Bywater or Wigan's Carlo Nash to replace Neil Alexander, who joined Rangers earlier today, although Nash appears more likely to return to former club Preston North End.

The Blues are also expected to finally complete their move for Plymouth's David Norris for a fee somewhere around the £2 million mark.

Meanwhile, ahead of what is likely to prove a busy final day of the transfer window, Birmingham's Martin Taylor is believed to be back in Jim Magilton's thoughts after his failure to land Leicester City central defender Gareth McAuley. Norwich City are understood to have given up on signing their former loanee, while talk of West Brom interest appears to be nothing more than paper talk.

Former Town loanee Matt Bates has joined Norwich City on loan having recovered from his latest cruciate knee ligament injury.

In Ireland, Cork City manager Alan Mathews has confirmed that he has offered George O'Callaghan a contract. O'Callaghan was given a free transfer by the Blues earlier in the month. TWTD first reported that the Irishman was set for a return to his hometown club back in December.
