Swedish Fans in Town - Ipswich Town News

If you hear foreign accents around you at Portman Road on Saturday or at Selhurst Park next Tuesday, you'll probably be sitting near Town's Swedish supporters. Around 25 are over for this week's games.

Niklas Nygåds told TWTD that this is the first time the Swedes have come over en masse but that many of them make the trip to Portman Road a few times a year: "Most fans probably come over once or twice a season, just a few of us watch more than two games a season.

"We have an action packed weekend ahead of us. A stadium tour on Friday afternoon, followed by a pub crawl. Then a visit at the training ground before the U18s play, watch that and then the game at Portman Road.

"Will have a quiz after the game and then off for a second pub crawl with a new set of pubs. On Sunday we will rest.”

TWTD suggested that Niklas and his friends ought to try to add a Swedish flavour to Saturday's support: "I've never thought of singing Swedish songs at an Ipswich game, but why not? Several of the supporters will be at Portman Road for the first time, so they'll most likely be soaking up the atmosphere and joining the English songs, as will the rest of us I think.”

Town have fans throughout Scandinavia with a large number of Danish fans making their way over earlier in the season. Norwegian supporters are regularly found home and away, while Finnish fans occasionally visit the TWTD stall before home games.
