Edgar Linked With Loan Move - Ipswich Town News

Town are one of a number of clubs claimed to be interested in taking Newcastle United defender David Edgar on loan, according to his agent Barry McLean. The Blues, Norwich City and Plymouth Argyle are all said to have asked about the Canadian's availability this season.

McLean says his client is currently a bit part player at St James' Park and needs a move: "Ipswich, Norwich and Plymouth have all enquired about him, but Newcastle have not been willing to let him go in January because of the fact there were players away at the African Cup of Nations.

"David has been stuck between a rock and a hard place this season. I don't know whether that has changed, but those three clubs would love to have him.

"I know Kevin [Keegan] has had other things to deal with as he's just arrived at the club, but hopefully we can sit down at some point in the next couple of weeks and try to come to an agreement on what the best course of action will be.”

Edgar, 20, is a close friend of Town winger Jaime Peters and TWTD reported Town's interest in the Canada U20 international earlier in the season. The 6ft 2in tall centre-half, who can also play as a full-back, has made three starts and two sub appearances for the Magpies, scoring one goal.

The emergency loan window opened on February 8th, but from next Friday the 93-day maximum loan period would stretch to the play-off final on Saturday, 24th May.

Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be interested in re-signing former Blue Darren Ambrose from Charlton. A move for another midfielder seems unlikely, while the Ambrose is currently in the first team at the Valley.

Town sent a scout to look at Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers striker Stuart Fleetwood playing in their 0-0 draw at Stevenage last week, but the striker failed to impress during a 0-0 draw.
