Town to Pay Loan Fee for Nugent - Ipswich Town News

Harry Redknapp says the Blues have offered Portsmouth a loan fee in order to secure David Nugent's services for the final three months of the season. Redknapp revealed earlier today that the striker is free to join Town on loan if he wants to.

Redknapp said: "Ipswich's chairman has approached Peter Storrie about it. It would be a deal where they would pay money to have David on loan.

"David needs to play some games and score some goals. If he can help Ipswich get back into the Premier League it would be good for him and good for everybody.

"The lad Michael Chopra, who Sunderland signed in the summer, hasn't played all the time either. It's a big step up and it takes players time to adjust.

"I've got Defoe, Kanu, Baros and Utaka who can all play through the middle. So I've got options.

"David needs some more time to get fit, but when that happens I'll have a chat with him and see if he fancies it. If he does, it's a possibility.

"I've spoken to him about it already but he wants to get himself fit first and to talk to his agent about it.”

Loan fees are becoming increasingly common with the Blues previously paying to take Gary Roberts and Franny Jeffers on short-term spells.

Nugent is expected to return to training on Monday or Tuesday after picking up a groin strain earlier this week.
