Reserves 5-0 Colchester - Ipswich Town News

Town's reserves continued their 100% record as Colchester were thrashed 5-0 at Portman Road on Monday evening. Jordan Rhodes scored twice (one pen), while Ed Upson, Gary Roberts and Chris Casement were also on the scoresheet.

Upson headed the Blues on front early on and Rhodes made it two with a well taken effort.

After the break, Gary Roberts, back from his loan spell at Crewe, made it three when he finished well after a Liam Trotter run.

Rhodes made it four from the bench late on after he himself was fouled and Chris Casement made it five when he prodded home after a corner.

A strong Town reserve side, who have already won the Pontin's Holidays Combination League East Division, were always in control against a youthful Colchester line-up with Gary Roberts, Gavin Williams and Liam Trotter amongst the Blues' best performers.

Matt Richards, currently on loan at Brighton, was in the crowd talking to team-mate Sito during the game, the one-time England U21 international having returned to the Blues for treatment after tearing a hamstring at the weekend.

Richards is expected to be out of action for between a fortnight and a month, but the left-sided defender or midfielder is not expected to end his loan early.

Reserves: Colgan, Synnott (Watson 80), Harding (Robinson 60), G Williams, Casement, Wilnis, Upson, Trotter, Rhodes, Ainsley (Reason 60), Roberts. Unused: Ward, Lambe.
