Shirts Arrive in Rwanda - Ipswich Town News

The old Town shirts collected by TWTD over the Christmas period have now arrived in Rwanda. Reverend David Meikle led a church group of nine people from Ipswich who went to the African state last month.

David and his party visited Kigali, Byumba and Kigeme, places affected by the genocide that occurred during the civil war in 1994.

The communities there are mad football fans, which led to David asking TWTD and Town supporters to participate in the collection.

More than 150 shirts â€" enough for five teams in different kit - were donated, which led to concerns that the nine people travelling might not be able to manage them all, but in the end they were just about squeezed in.

David hoped to get some pictures of the Rwandans in action in the shirts, but the game planned during their stay was postponed.

Instead he has sent us some photos taken at a secondary school in Kigeme: "They are a bit dark as we didn't get there till after 6pm. However, there were 700 kids there to greet us.

"We then invited members of the football teams to come forward and there was a great rush led by the girls team, as you can see from one of the photos.”
