Town Sign United Defender on Loan - Ipswich Town News

Town have signed Manchester United right-back Danny Simpson on loan until the end of the season. Simpson, 21, is set to make his debut for the Blues at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Sir Alex Ferguson says the loan spell will be good for his player: "I've let Danny Simpson go on loan to Ipswich, a good football team, until the end of the season.

"It's good for the lad - with Gary Neville coming back, the boy needs games.”

Salford-born Simpson came through the youth system at Old Trafford and like many other United youngsters has spent time on loan with Royal Antwerp. Simpson, 5ft 8in tall, was with the Belgian club for part of 2005/06 and the first half of 2006/07.

The rest of last season was spent with Sunderland as they stormed to the Championship title.

Simpson, an attacking pacy player of whom United have great hopes, signed a contract until 2010 last summer. So far he has made three senior starts, including one in the Premier League, and four sub appearances for the Red Devils.

It is likely that Simpson's addition to the squad will see David Wright switch to left-back and the new man slot in on the right with Sito dropping out of the side.
