Further Ban Possible for Couñago - Ipswich Town News

Striker Pablo Couñago could face a further three-match ban if the FA charge and find him guilty of spitting at Scunthorpe's Andy Butler in the incident which led up to his red card at the weekend. The Spaniard already faces an automatic three-game suspension for being sent off for violent conduct.

Couñago is protesting his innocence, the 28-year-old reportedly saying he spat blood at the ground after Jack Cork's elbow caught him in the face, the on-loan Chelsea youngster also receiving a red card in the incident.

An FA spokesman says that they could take additional action against the Town striker depending on referee Iain Williamson's report and if there is any video evidence shwoing him spit at the Iron player, with none so far having been made public: "There is nothing from preventing us further charging Couñago for that incident if we felt it was necessary.

"We will wait to see what is in the referee's report and any video evidence that is available. An offence of spitting carries a penalty of a three-match suspension.”

Boss Jim Magilton, who himself faces an FA disciplinary charge later this week for his banishment to the stand at Stoke, has said he will take strong action against Couñago if he is proved to have spat at Butler with a fine of two weeks' wages likely.

Unless the FA choose to take further action, Couñago will be unavailable for the games with QPR, Colchester and Cardiff City.
