De Vos Offered New Deal - Ipswich Town News

Skipper Jason De Vos has been offered a new one-year deal with the Blues. The 34-year-old's current terms are up in June and there had been speculation that he might retire and return to Canada at the end of the season.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site: "I've spoken with Jason and we have offered him a new one-year contract.

"He's been terrific for us this year and we have sat down and talked about his future, but at the moment he wants to concentrate on the rest of this season.

"He is fully focused on the remaining six games of the Championship season and getting the club into the play-offs and doesn't want anything to get in the way of that.

"He has said he will make a decision as soon as the season is over and that is fine by me."

De Vos had an operation on a long-standing foot injury last summer and told TWTD earlier in the season that he would probably have retired by now due to the problem: "I had surgery and it was like someone had put a new foot on the end of my leg.

"I was amazed at the difference post-op and pre-op. The physios were as well. The amount of flexibility I now have is remarkable and it allows me to run normally without any pain.

"Coupled with a few other innovations we've looked at - some supplementation and that sort of thing - it's been great and I honestly haven't missed a day of training due to my foot since then.

"So, from that standpoint I feel great. If you'd asked me that in March [last year], I would probably have said I'd struggle to get to Christmas because I was in that much pain.”

Such has been the change, that the former Canadian international has played every league game this season.

Meanwhile, midfielder Gavin Williams has pledged his future to the club, despite having turned down a new deal earlier in the season. The Welshman, who was a shock recall into Jim Magilton's side at the weekend, has another year left to run on his current deal.
