Harte Linked With Championship Trio - Ipswich Town News

Town, Norwich City and Leicester City are chasing Sunderland left-back Ian Harte, according to reports in one of this morning's tabloids. The 30-year-old is on the transfer list at the Stadium of Light, having made only three starts and four sub appearances since joining Roy Keane's club last summer.

Capped 64 times by the Republic of Ireland, scoring 11 goals, Harte was a product of Dublin youth side Home Farm which also produced Owen Garvan, Shane Supple, Michael Synnott and Alan Lee, and where Garvan's father Gerry is a coach.

Harte moved to Leeds in 1995 and made 270 starts and 18 sub appearances for the Elland Road club, scoring 39 goals, before joining Spanish side Levante on a Bosman in the summer of 2004. After four seasons with the Valencia-based club he was released at the end of last season.

Harte is best known by Town fans for his dive which led to Marcus Stewart receiving a red card during the Blues' 2-1 defeat to Leeds back in 2000/01.

Elsewhere, Owen Garvan is claimed to be a potential target of Wigan Athletic and a number of other Premier League sides. The Latics have been keeping an eye on the Blues throughout the season with Liam Trotter a player known to interest Steve Bruce, while the Lancastrians were rumoured to be after Jon Walters in January.

Danny Haynes, who was also linked with Wigan earlier in the week, is again mentioned in connection with Premier League clubs by a Sunday paper, with West Ham and Portsmouth said to be leading the way.

Last weekend the Hammers and Birmingham were claimed to be ready to launch £2 million bids for the former England U19 international in the summer.
