Williams Plays in Final Layer Road Game - Ipswich Town News
Released Town U18 captain Curtley Williams was involved in the last ever game at Colchester United's Layer Road on Tuesday evening as he began a trial with the U's, as first reported by TWTD a fortnight ago.
Colchester's reserves beat Peterborough's second string 3-0 in the final Layer Road match with Williams almost adding a fourth late on. The 18-year-old has already had spells on trial with Lincoln, Stevenage, Grimsby and Peterborough as he seeks a new club.
Town have also released academy midfielder Nathan Tooms, in addition to Williams, Ollie Fenn, who subsequently joined Galway United in Ireland, keeper Andy Plummer, striker Craig Calver, who is now with Cambridge United, and defender Michael Synnott, who has had spells on trial with Luton and York.
Tommy Smith, Jai Reason, Ed Upson, Kurt Robinson, Jordan Rhodes and Jack Ainsley have all signed professional deals with the Blues this season.
