Magilton Confirms Sørensen Move - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has confirmed that he tried to sign Aston Villa keeper Thomas Sørensen, as first reported by TWTD in January. The Town manager has also confirmed that he could be interested in signing former Blue Richard Wright this summer.

Magilton says that when he targeted Sørensen prior to signing Stephen Bywater on loan he was told the Danish international wouldn't be interested, but that he could move for him again: "Sørensen's agent told us he was not prepared to drop down a division and wanted to stay in the Premier League. We are not a Premier League side yet. If he became available and wanted to come to us, we would speak to him."

Last summer Magilton's attempt to re-sign former Blue Richard Wright fell down after appearing to be a done deal for much of the close season. TWTD reported back in March that former goalkeeper-coach Andy Rhodes made a trip to catch Wright in action for West Ham's reserves and Magilton says he is also on his list of potential new keepers: "Wrighty is another, and if he wants to come and play he would be welcomed back.

"A lot of players are prepared to sit in the reserves and not drop down and it baffles me."

The Town boss has not yet ruled out Stephen Bywater and Nick Colgan remaining at the club next season, while he will talk to Shane Supple when he returns from his spell with Falkirk. The SPL side are interested in the Irish U21 international, who has another year left on his Town contract.

Magilton says he would like to sign former loanee Danny Simpson if he had the opportunity, although it now seems likely that the full-back will remain at Manchester United next season.

The Town manager has yet to decide on a new captain, who may come from the existing squad or from this summer's recruits, with Leicester's Gareth McAuley a possibility if Magilton finally lands the Northern Irish international centre-half. The Blues could also name a club captain and then give other players the armband for a game or for a month.

Magilton is also looking at adding to his staff by naming a continental scout. Romeo Zondervan and Simon Hunt filled the role under George Burley, but the job was scrapped after 2002's relegation and subsequent financial crisis.

Interviews are currently taking place, while the Blues continue to look for a goalkeeper-coach to replace Andy Rhodes.
