Newcastle Fans Call for Fund-Raising Friendly - Ipswich Town News
Newcastle United fans have set up an online petition calling for the Magpies and the Blues to play an annual friendly to raise money for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The organisers of the petition say both clubs have been informed of its existence and are looking into the possibility.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, the ClubFanzine charity for May, was set up by the former Blues and Magpies boss earlier this year to focus on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it.
The petition can be found here: http://www.gopetition.co.uk/online/19449.html.
The clubs last met in a friendly at Portman Road in 2004 in a testimonial for the family of Town coach Dale Roberts, who died of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in February 2003, the Blues winning 2-1.
