Robson Doesn't Rule Out Return - Ipswich Town News

Town legend Bobby Robson is not ruling out returning to Town in some capacity when he leaves Newcastle United. Blues fans have long hoped that the man who guided us to FA and UEFA Cup glory would return, perhaps as a director of football.

Robson said of a possible return: "That would be up to Ipswich."

The former England boss added that he was looking forward to the Saturday's game at Portman Road: "I am looking forward to walking on to the playing surface which I have not done since I left Ipswich such a long time ago. I have not really thought about the reception I will get but this is a very exciting time for me."

Like many fans Robson admitted that the Ipswich-Newcastle fixture was the first he looked for on the fixture list. Saturday promises to be quite a special day for Robson and Town.

Alun Armstrong has hit out at former manager Bryan Robson. Armstrong was sold to Town by Robson at the beginning of the season for a knock-down £500,000 (rising to £800,000) as he was seen as surplus to requirements.

The Town striker said: "It would have been interesting to see what Boro would be like if Terry Venables hadn't taken over. He has tightened things up a lot but they are still struggling – so God knows where they would be without him. Bryan Robson brought in three strikers – Alen Boksic, Noel Whelan and Joseph Desire Job. He told me he only wanted four strikers and that I could have a move. I wasn't getting a sniff of first-team football. But, despite all their attacking options, Boro still can't score – and here I am scoring goals."

Town's reserves drew 3-3 last night with Coventry. The Town scorers were Richard Logan (penalty), Richard Naylor and Justin Miller. Town were unfortunate to lose the lead with the last kick of the game.

Town's side: Pullen, Artun, Karic, Moffat, Miller, Beevers, Bloomfield, Nicholls, Naylor, Logan, Abidallah.

The U19s play Norwich City today at Bent Lane (2pm KO) in the most senior derby the clubs will play this season. The Town squad is waekened by the number of U19s who played for the reserves last night.

Squad: Kelly, Bligh, Okay, Richards, Bonwick, Boardley, Westlake, Robinson, Snowdon, Ambrose, Smith, Bent, Burton, Dickinson, Graaven.

Town's Customer Service Manager Richard Powell has revealed that a focus group comprising of a random selection of North Stand fans have said they would choose Option A and return to the North as soon as possible.

He also said that the aim will be to move fans back to the North in similar positions to where they find themselves now and also in the same groups, if that is what fans want.

He also told TWTD that the deadline for votes set at Sunday 15th is not quite as strict as suggested. Votes will be accepted two or three days later.
