Clarke and Irish Bow Out - Ipswich Town News

Billy Clarke and the Irish U21s crashed out of the Intercontinental Cup in Malaysia on Friday afternoon having lost their semi-final 3-1 to Australia. Clarke played in all four of Ireland's games.

The Irish side's preparations weren't helped by a bug which affected several members of the squad before the game and forced two players off before the half hour mark.

Clarke, who scored one goal in the group stage of the competition, played all 90 minutes of the semi-final and came close to scoring on two occasions, once hitting the bar.

Republic of Ireland: Shane Redmond (Nottingham Forest), Simon Madden (Leeds United), David Elebert (Hamilton Academical), Shane Lowry (Aston Villa), Michael Spillane (Norwich City), James Ryan (Shrewsbury Town) (Stephen Maher (Yeovil Town) 84), Michael Collins (Huddersfield Town) (Mark Salmon (Wolverhampton Wanderers) 23), Keith Treacy (Blackburn Rovers), Alan Judge (Blackburn Rovers), Billy Clarke (Ipswich Town), Stephen Ward (Wolverhampton Wanderers) (Karl Moore (Manchester City) 25).
