Agent: No Bid for Newcastle's Ameobi - Ipswich Town News

Shola Ameobi's agent has denied that Newcastle have accepted a bid for his player from the Blues. Yesterday, reports from the North-East claimed the Magpies and Town had agreed a £4 million fee for the 26-year-old.

However, Ameobi's representative Steven Denos says no offer has yet been made by the Blues: "Ipswich have not put a bid in for Shola. There has certainly been no dialogue from Newcastle to me to the effect that a bid has been submitted from any club at this stage.

"Our position is that we will be willing to talk to any club that puts a bid in to Newcastle that is acceptable."

But it appears there could still be some mileage in the story with newspapers in the North-East today reporting that although no offer has been made up to now, the Blues could table a bid of £2.5 million rising to £4 million with add-ons for the former England U21 international, while Norwich City are also still in the running for the striker's signature.

Town released a statement regarding Ameobi last night in which they refused to comment on the story, while the Magpies were similarly taciturn on the matter.

Meanwhile, reported Town target Kaspers Gorkss is claimed to be on the verge of joining QPR from Blackpool. Town were linked with the Latvian last week, but the Blues appear more interested in the likes of Leicester's Gareth McAuley and Cardiff's Roger Johnson.

Town made several attempts to sign McAuley in January and a £1 million offer appears to still be on the table, while a similar bid for Johnson was turned down late last week.

Elsewhere, St Johnstone and Falkirk look set to go to a compensation tribunal over former Town academy midfielder Liam Craig's switch to the Saints. The 21-year-old is out of contract with Falkirk but the Bairns are entitled to a fee as he is under 23-years-of-age.

Craig, who captained Town's U18s when they won the 2005 FA Youth Cup, joined Falkirk in January 2006, but spent the latter part of 2007/08 at St Johnstone with whom he has agreed a three-year deal.

Former Town loanee Matt Elliott has become assistant manager at Unibond League Premier Division side Hednesford Town.
