Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale is hoping to persuade Town target Roger Johnson to sign a new deal at Ninian Park. Over the weekend Cardiff revealed that they had rebuffed £1 million bids for Johnson from the Blues and an unnamed Premier League side.
Johnson has a year remaining on his current deal and Ridsdale is keen to secure him on a longer term basis along with team-mates Kevin McNaughton and Glenn Loovens: "I have met with Roger's agent and Kevin's too and I will be meeting with Glenn's agent this week.
"We believe we have some lucrative packages to offer them and are very optimistic they will commit their futures to Cardiff City.
"We firmly believe Roger and Glenn Loovens are probably the best central defensive partnership in the Championship.
"Therefore, our objective this summer is to keep those two players together to ensure our best push at the league next season.
"The only way we would consider selling Roger, or Glenn for that matter, is that if we received a knockout bid and the manager thinks we could replace them.â€Â
Cardiff reportedly want £3 million for Johnson, who they signed from Wycombe Wanderers for £275,000 in July 2006. The Premier League side bidding for the 25-year-old are believed to be Middlesbrough, Fulham or Hull City.
