SGR Rights Victory Confirmed - Ipswich Town News

Town have confirmed that SGR FM have won the rights to provide commentary on the Blues' games from next season, as revealed by TWTD a week ago.

As we reported last Friday, the commercial station will take over from BBC Radio Suffolk for 20008/09, having signed a three-year deal to cover Town's matches home and away.

Andrew Goulborn, Town's sales and marketing director, said: "Ipswich Town Football Club is delighted to be working with SGR FM over the next three years.

"The strength of the proposal put before us, both in terms of commitment to unbroken match commentary and general coverage of the club, we believe, is exciting and will appeal to both existing SGR listeners and those who may be tuning in for the first time.

"We have enjoyed a good relationship with BBC Radio Suffolk regarding their commentary and general coverage of Ipswich Town for many years.

"Although SGR FM has been successful in acquiring exclusive commentary rights for the next three seasons, we will continue to work in many ways with BBC Radio Suffolk and their continued coverage of the club."

SGR are yet to decide on their commentary team and there is no truth in reports elsewhere claiming that Town director of communications Terry Baxter and academy sponsorship manager Simon Milton will be behind the microphones.
